Our Timeline
2014
• Purchased a property in Muxara, Mozambique (15 minutes from Pemba) & construction of a two bedroom house begins.
• The Widow’s Might is established, under James 1:27 Mission Friends.
2015
• Amanda and Nunu moved into an unfinished house to start getting to know the community.
• Amanda met Binti, her first friend in Muxara. We asked Binti if she could introduce us to some of her friends. She invited them to come for a visit one afternoon, we were prepared for 5 or so women and their children. We were blown away when 25 women and over 60 children showed up!
• We spent each Saturday in the village visiting each woman we had met.
2016
• Started a tutoring program and enrolled 24 children in the Muxara school and began tutoring children 2 days a week under a cashew tree behind the house.
• Continued to visit the village, going to the home of each of our Learning League children.
• Brought electricity over a 1/4 mile, so our side of the village would have access to electricity.
2017
• Enrolled 24 children in school and provided tutoring.
• Began a sponsorship model for children to covers the costs of uniforms, gym clothes, shoes, school supplies, tuition and tutoring.
• Built a ministry building with 2 classrooms and 2 offices.
• Purchased a piece of property (about 160ft x 160ft) right across the street.
2018
• Began teaching 13 women to sew.
• Had a soft launch of Women’s Ministry with 14 women.
• Stopped the illegal marriage of one of our underage female students, much to her relief!
• A total of 58 students tutored 5 days a week! Sponsored the education of 28 children and signed up an additional 30 children for tutoring.
• Had our first pre-school class, under a mango tree.
2019
• Officially launched the Women’s Ministry with 13 women.
• Entered 3 women into our Made with Moxie sewing class; these women are paid for items that they sew.
• Started a Sunday morning gathering.
• Sponsored the education of 39 children and signed up an additional 13 children for tutoring.
• Built the Alpendre (open air structure) to house pre-school, private tutoring and the Kihavo Cobre classroom store.
2020
• Sponsored the education of 35 children and signed up an additional 9 children for tutoring.
• Drilled a well.
• Built two new bathrooms for students and staff.
2021
• Relaunched the ministry under a new name, Kihavo Ministries!
• School started at the end of March, Sponsorship and tutoring numbers are coming soon!
